Tweets,
Don't know if Russell is back yet and if so he can reply and give much
better detail but here is my take. This summer I was able to assist in
some work done by Russell on the approach zone in MacChord AFB, where the
freeway was proposed. The squirrel situation is severe, but so is many of
the bird species in this area and habitat that the Nature Conservancy is
doing to restore the Oak woodland. This summer there was some contraversy
as to whether the freeway was going to be allowed to go through. It
disgusts me to imagine that a freeway must be built through a valuable
habitat area, so as to save people some (I believe it was going to be
like 15-20 minutes on their commute). This is only my take and I hope to
perhaps find out more as to the reality of the freeway progressing. The
base was in opposition to the freeway and have either changed their mind
or other forces are working. So even if a squirrel solution is found what
about the lost bird habitat and some species that are specialized.
