Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday January 29. If you have anything to add call

The WHOOPER SWANS continue to be seen at Lower Klamath NWR. On January 24
one was in the north section of Unit 1, north of Stateline Road.

A SLATY-BACKED GULL is still being seen at the Pellet Plant on Sauvie
Island. It apparently is seen only in the morning prior to 9:30 AM.

The BLACK DUCK remains at the boat basin at the west end of Hood River.

On January 25 eight HEERMANN'S GULLS were at the mouth of the Chetco
River in Brookings, one was at the mouth of Pistol River, one was at the
mouth of the Rogue River in Gold Beach, and another was at the mouth of
the Coquille River in Bandon.

A male ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD was along Oceanview Drive near Brookings
January 26. A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was on the North Spit of Coos Bay
January 19.

On January 22 a NASHVILLE WARBLER and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were at
Pony Slough on Coos Bay. Also there that day were a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a
WILLET, 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS.

Up to 2 BROWN PELICANS, 25 KITTIWAKES, many MURRES, and a few MARBLED and
ANCIENT MURRELETS were at Boiler Bay Viewpoint near Depot Bay last
week-end. Two POMARINE JAEGERS were reported there January 24.

Two BONAPARTE'S GULLS and six WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at the Nestucca
NWR along Highway 101 near Pacific City January 26. A bright
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK is being regularly seen about the Fred Meyer Store
north of Tillamook. A GOLDEN EAGLE is in the same area. On January 27 it
was at Bay City. At least 8 GREAT EGRETS are in the Tillamook area.

A SHORT-EARED OWL and 3 GREAT EGRETS were in Scappoose Bottoms January
26. Much of the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area will open February 1. The
east side will remain closed.

The wintering CLAY-COLORED SPARROW near Canby continues to be seen. To
reach the bird drive north out of Canby on Holly Street. At 22d Street
turn left and drive west to where it turns north. Continue north on 22d
about 300 yards to where a dirt road runs west on the left side of the
road. Park and walk about 100 yards up the dirt road to the sparrow
flock.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was at Baskett Slough NWR January 25. The bright rusty FOX
SPARROW is still being seen at Salem's Riverfront Park.

The MOCKINGBIRD and CASSIN'S FINCHES are being found around W 11th. and
Danebo Road in Eugene.
