Hi tweeters.

The chittering robin has filled my ear this past week, but the week itself
is noteworthy for sightings of birds not spied all winter.

At the feeder:
2 Redbreasted Nuthatches
1 Chestnut-backed Chickadee
1 American Goldfinch
as well as chickadees, juncos, house finches, sparrows, and the persistent
squirrel

In the compost pile:
1 House Wren

In the skies over 2642 E. Ward:
1 Cooper's Hawk
as well as robins, starlings, and the crow

In the neighborhood:
Golden and ruby crowned kinglets

In the Japanese Garden, closed through February:
1 male Kingfisher
1 Great Blue Heron
the pauper's view of the Japanese Garden lies on the path to the west of
the Garden. The Kingfisher is presently in residence at the pond.

in the Winter Garden, Washington Park Arboretum:
2 Anna's Hummingbirds, engaged in the familiar ritual
Townsend's Warblers travelling in a flock of bushtits
the Mahonia on the east side of the Winter Garden is where one will come
upon the hummingbirds and the warblers.

Best,
Wallis
