Subject: Kingfisher sighting

For the person that's collecting the Kingfisher sightings, we saw one
yesterday (29 January, '98) in Dungeness NWR at the foot of the trail from
the parking lot to the beach. The bird called first and then flew directly
away from us, we could not determine the sex.

No other really notable sightings of birds, but we were struck by all the
deer tracks on the beach. The deer (blacktails?) must go to considerable
trouble to scramble down and back up the "cliff" to drink salt water. Is
this the pelagic version of a salt lick? ;^)
