Deb, thanks for passing on the alert on Izembek. People in
other states with other congressmen have a better chance of
fighting for the integrity of the refuge than we do in Alaska. Our
congressional delegation is part of the problem; they rarely
even acknowledge mail from conservationists anymore.

The folks in King Cove do in fact have a hard time getting
out for medical emergencies. It is no more isolated than
many Aleutian communities, however. A road between
King Cove and Cold Bay would be a great source of
entertainment for both towns; Sunday drives, hunting
expeditions, etc. Building and maintaining it would create
those magical things called jobs... So it's a good way
for our congr. delegation to court the bush vote.

Written support from outside birders helped Homer, AK
acquire some important shorebird habitat. Maybe this
issue can be another success story.
