A sad tale I feel I should recount.

Two young women I know who have been doing the second year of research on
the nesting habits and food supply of sage grouse down in SE Oregon were
enroute to a meeting of fellow researchers when their truck went off the
road, rolled twice, and was totaled. Both women sustained terrible
injuries. The cause of the accident? The driver was watching a red-tailed
hawk.

We all do that without thinking. As a friend once said, he hated birders
because he always felt they had one eye on the sky and weren't paying
attention to the conversation or what ever. Sorry to be so gloomy, but it
does give one pause.
