I have been told by Steve Zender (WDFW District Wildlife Biologist)
that, contrary to what is written in the best bird references,
Common Goldeneyes are not that uncommon as breeders in the
northeast corner of the state. However, I think that breeding
Buffleheads in Washington are rarely recorded so this breeding record
is, to my mind at least, very significant. I will forward the message
to WDFW data system's folks.
