Tweets,

Couple of highlights, amongst others, out at the Iona Island regional park.

Wed July 1-98

Lesser Yellowlegs
Western Sandpiper
Semi-palmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
*Pectoral Sandpiper*

Thur July 2-98

Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Short-billed Dowitcher 1
Semi-palmated Sandpiper
Western Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
*Red-necked Stint*

The Red-necked Stint was among the 4-500 Western Sandpipers on the tidal flats in
Iona Bay between the North and South Jetties. The bird was an alternate plumaged
adult. Rick Toochin and I were able to come within 15 meters of the bird. The dogs
people were letting run loose frequently displaced the stint flock. The owners
found it amusing when we attempted to keep the dogs away from the resting/feeding
flock of migrants, and one individual commented "Yeah I know my dog is chasing the
birds......that's why I bring him here." Too bad :-(
