Dear tweets,
Just wanted to second Hal Opperman's sightings of BLACK SWIFTS in the
Teanaway area. My husband and I backpacked up the Stafford Creek
drainage over the weekend and saw the swifts as Hal described, flying at
treetop level, near the trailhead (Green Trails map No. 209). We also
saw a THREE-TOED WOODPECKER not far from our camp near a gorgeous alpine
meadow filled with shooting stars and numerous other flowers I'm still
trying to ID. Heard him hammering the next morning, too.
Now for the real reason I posted: My husband and I are thinking of
visiting the Hawaiian Islands in September. Neither one of us has ever
been there before. Any recommendations from birders as to which island
to visit, where to bird? You can reply to the address below. Thanks.
