Hi Tweeters.
In August I will be spending 2 weeks on an EARTHWATCH Sea Turtle project in
Baja. I would love to hear from anyone who has been to this area or has
suggestions on bords I might see. The area is Bahia de Los Angeles, about 400
miles south of Tijuana on the Gulf side. We will be spending time on the
water every day retrieving turtles to collect data, tag and satellite track,
and will also have opportunities to explore the desert.

Now for my EARTHWATCH plug---the ONLY kind of vacations I take any more! I'm
a true believer in this organization which "promotes sustainable use of our
natural resources and preservation of our cultural heritage by creating
partnerships between scientists, educators, businesses and the public". The
projects are "volunteer vacations" where you are working with a scientist to
obtain data for a specific project. Your expenses are fully tax deductible.
There are grants for teachers and students. Projects cover a variety of
fields of interest including biodiversity, global change, endangered
ecosystems, oceans, world health, etc. I have been on 2 bird projects--Last
Songbird to Puerto Rico and Sierra Egg Hunt. The projects are truly world-
wide. Pick your country, then find a project you would enjoy working on!
Their website (www.earthwatch.org) has full descriptions of every project,
including cost. The newest bird projects still in development include a
Raptor Survey in Israel and Arizona's Avian Hunters (Painted Redstarts).

Please feel free to e-mail me privately if you have questions about
Earthwatch. I'm not sure how far to go with this on Tweeters without someone
getting bothered about my "commercial". I really love what they do and love
these learning vacations! I'm sure there must be other Tweeters who would
enjoy this type of travel.

E-mail either to Tweeters or privately about Baja---my real reason for
writing. Thanks for your help!
