Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday July 9. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On June 31 two LEAST TERNS were reported foraging over the ocean near the
SW 35th. Street beach access in Lincoln City. This is a block or two
north of the D River mouth.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK spent July 4 at a Tigard feeder before
moving on.

Shorebird numbers increased during the week as the adult movement passes
through the state.

Large numbers of BROWN PELICANS and HEERMANN'S GULLS are now moving north
along the coast along with a few ELEGANT TERNS. On July 8 about 35
ELEGANTS were at the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold Beach. CASPIAN
TERNS are fledging young now and the birds are beginning to move
southward with many being seen at inland locations.

MARBLED MURRELETS, ANCIENT MURRELETS, CASSIN'S AUKLETS, and RHINOCEROS
AUKLETS are now moving close to shore and are being seen off most
viewpoints.

A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was with the many shorebirds gathered at
Ridgefield NWR July 3. Two GREAT EGRETS were there also. Another GREAT
EGRET was at the Fernhill Wetlands at Forest Grove July 2.

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER is now being seen on the east side of Mt.
Pisgah in Eugene. Also in the area are nesting VESPER SPARROWS, LAZULI
BUNTINGS, NASHVILLE WARBLERS, and HUTTON'S VIREOS.

Thats it for this week.
