What a bunch of bluehairs we are. This reminds me of my short tenure as a
member of the right versus left mailing list at Microsoft. I suggested that
Ronald Reagan might act as the poster boy for Alzheimers. One man wept, the
libertarians stopped speaking to me, and that was it for me on the alias.

Dear Mr. Price, thank you for your passionate defense. Two points:
impassionedly is a rather awkward word to use and if I had the will to trot
downstairs for the dictionary, I would look it up and perhaps confirm this
suspicion I have that it might not even be a word. Ex-editor that I am, I
would suggest "makes a passionate argument." Two, Wallis is the feminine
form.

One word does not a vulgar post make. I was amazed to find that the
discussion centered on the one word and not the content. Ai, I have the
ability to polarize, and perhaps I have learned a lesson in effective
writing. I learned to use the word fuck as noun, verb, adjective the summer
of my junior year, the year I was 20, the year I spent in King Salmon,
Alaska among fishing guides, BLM surveyors, helicopter pilots, Japanese
documentarians, Indians, coke addicts, fish cutters, members of the United
States Air Force, U.S. forest service personnel, and fellow UW students.
Oh, what fun we had with that word. We have never given it up. It is to me
one of the most expressive words in the English language. Appropriate as
passionate endearment, as passionate denouncement, as world weary
resignation, as conveyor of excitement, as conveyor of disappointment. What
a remarkable word. I would not live without it.

I trust that you Seattle birders uncovered the real issue. This city is
under siege, and we need to pay attention.
