You're right. Birds don't give a (blank) for political barriers. I should
have been more specifc. Tricolored Blackbirds have generally been found
in and around the central valley of California. The only field guide I
have at work is the recently published ABC's All The Birds of North
America. It shows a rather large clumb of region in central California
and then one small clump past the Oregon border. The journal article that
I referred to showed addtional small clumps of distribution in
California. Other older field guides show only a rather contiguous range
for them in and around the central valley. I would be very curious to see
how Kenn Kaufmann's Birds of North America shows the range of Tri-colored
Blackbirds.
