Birders, Post-Breeding Migration is definitely on.
Today, July 9, on the Patterson unit of the Umatilla NWR we found:
1 adult SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER,
1 adult SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER (it called twice)
3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS (heard also)
6 LEAST SANDPIPERS (all seemed to be adults)
125+ WESTERN SANDPIPERS (all seemed to be adults)

This is a big increase from July 4 when there were only 1 Least
& 6 Western SP. There were also increased numbers of BLACK-
NECKED STILTS & AM AVOCETS; including juveniles!
There are also still several BLUE-WINGED TEAL (their alternate plumage is
fading).
No Yellowlegs there, but we did see six Greater on July 5
at the Yakima River delta.

Ain't shorebirding damn good fun?!!
