Subject: Never a wrentit?

Hello from Oregonland,

I haven't been in this E-mail group for very long, so pardon a niave question.
Could anyone update me as to the current status of the Wrentit in Washington?
Last I heard it had never been recorded in the state. I'd be interested to
know what the history of this bird is north of Oregon - any possible
sightings, areas where it's most likely to occur, etc.

I ask because a few years back while hiking out onto Leadbetter Pt north of
Long Beach, I observed what I am almost certain was a wrentit. I did not
report it because the sighting was very brief and not accompanied by any
vocalizations, and I couldn't relocate the bird or come back another day.

I have all the details in my notes - time, day, location, what was observed.
While this sighting can never be verified, someone familiar with the bird's
habits might be able to tell me if the circumstances (time, location etc)
would favor a positive ID or make it less likely. At the very least, I'd like
to be able to contribute something to the quest for Washington's first state
record

Thanks,

Ken Aldrich
