Saturday's cruise to Protection Island, while a bit soggy, provided some
greatviews of tufted puffins (approx. 5-6) on the south side of the island,
as well as the magnificent observation of the double crested cormorants
sitting on the nests they've built on the ridgeline, also on the south
side. Other species sighted include many rhinocerus auklets, Pelagic
cormorants, Great Blue Heron, Heerman's gull, Glaucus Winged Gull, Common
Murre, large bevys of Pigeon Guillemonts, 5 Bald Eagles (2 adults, 2 juv.,
& i sub-sdult), perhabs a score of harbor seal hauled out and two deer
(bucks) running along the ridgeline. While departing Point Hudson we
observed a Belted Kingfisher and the ubiquitus Northwestern Crow and Rock
Dove.

The next Protection Island cruise is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th at
6:30 pm
