Birders, On a windy Sat, July 11 we birded Crow Butte State Park
in southern Benton County. We found a CLARK'S GREBE.
The river was too high for many shorebirds. (Stupid fish flush!)
At Whitcom Island we found our first post-breeding migrant LESSER
YELLOWLEGS.
Was surprised it was in basic plumage already. (an adult)

Today, July 12, we birded along the Yakima River near Benton City &
found two new county year birds. A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was bravely
trying to nest despite hundreds of damn COWBIRDS.
(It may be the only Yellowthroat in the county right now.)
Also a GRAY CATBIRD was in full song. A few must nest along the Yakima.

We also found a smattering of YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, YELLOW WARBLERS,
LAZULI BUNTINGS & WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES to add to the fun.
Nice day!
