I've never heard a Spotted, only Barred and Great Horned (and Eastern
Screech). Contrasting Barred and Great Horned, the former has a raspy,
wheezy, note, the latter more of a shriek or a scream - *much* louder, and
harsh rather than wheezy. I've heard young GHOs calling all the way into
November in Massachusetts. I don't know if the parents were still
responding, or if it was just wishful thinking on the part of the
not-so-youngster.
