We just returned from the Rialto Beach - La Push area. In spite of the rain
we had grand walks on the beaches (very low tides). Watched Brown Pelicans
in huge flocks fishing, saw a Peregrine skim over the heads of a trio of
Bald Eagles sunning on a large log in the river (yes, there was sun on
Monday). Best sighting: A Bald Eagle literally spread-eagle, drying its
wings like a cormorant after a plunge after Common Merganser young in a pool
up the Dickey River. Also watched a Winter Wren chase a female or immature
Wilsons Warbler in and out of a thicket edging the beach. The male Wilsons
ignored the whole thing. A small flock of Chestnut-Backed Chickadees
flitted about the thicket too.
