Columbia Estuary Report - 07/19/98

There were 25 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS near the mouth of the Skipannon
River in Warrenton on Friday. About 100 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 30
LEAST SANDPIPERS were on Trestle Bay.

There were at least 10 recently fledged COMMON MURRES with adults
at the SJCR today making all kinds of racket. A largish wave of
north bound BROWN PELICANS was also going on today.

There were reasonably good numbers of shorebirds as well.

SJCR shorebird count for high tide, Sunday July 19, 1998
Black-bellied Plover 3 (all transitioning from alt to bas)
Semipalmated Plover 8
Baird's Sandpiper 1 (noisy and hanging out on the beach w/ terns)
SANDERLING (basic plumage, presumably non-breeder)
Western Sandpiper 19
Least Sandpiper 6
