Hi Tweeters,

A friend and I headed down to the Nisqually Delta for a healthy 6 mile
walk, picnic and some casual birding. (I couldn't talk him into heading
down there at crack of dawn when the birding would have been better....)
The weather this morning was PERFECT!

Here's what we saw.

GREAT BLUE HERONS Four adults, one possibly immature.....very large and
very brown.

A possible AMERICAN BITTERN or an immature Little Blue Heron or Black
Crown Night Heron. It was in flight and very brown with stripes/spots.
It's body language and neck tucked in said "heron".

Lots of swallows, some Canada Geese and something small, fluffy and blue.

This "blue" bird was dark blue on its back and sort of looked like a
small blue version of a grey jay. The "blue" bird was almost the same
size as the swallows swooping around the tree in which it was perched.

We also saw something that made me think of killdeer swooping around the
mud flats on the south side of the area. But do killdeer hang out in wet
lands?

I also think I saw a cedar waxwing, but by the time I put the binoculars
to my eyes it had flitted into some trees, but this gray bird had a "head
piece".

I hope somebody can help me with the birds I only caught glimpses of.
