Hi Tweeters,
Sorry this is a week late. Sunday July 12 we made a loop up the San Poil
River to Republic, west to Wauconda, across AenasValley road and back to
Grand Coulee on Hwy 155. I will mention a just few birds we thought
might be of interest.
Between mile marker 131 and 132 on highway 21 (south of Republic) we saw
a GRAY CATBIRD. The "meow" is unbelievable. Interesting bird. Continuing
north we spotted an AMERICAN DIPPER on the bank of the San Poil.
At Wauconda, we stopped to make a sandwich by a pond at the
intersection. There was
a BELTED KINGFISHER checking the pond out.
West of Wauconda a short distance in a pond on the north side there were
three mature and one juvenile BLACK TERNS.
Shortly after turning off Aenas Valley road on to Moses Meadow-Lyman
Lake road, there is a pond on the right side. There we saw a SORA and
took some pictures.(Not
great)
On Moses Meadow road, we watched a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER coming and going
feeding its young. Jerry got some good pictures of this bird.
It was a fun trip. We traveled 176 miles and it only took us ten hours.
