Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday July 23. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

An unidentified GOLDEN-PLOVER and several BLACK TURNSTONES were at New
River, south of Bandon July 22.

On July 14 a female RING-NECKED DUCK with 6 chicks was observed at the
effluent ponds on the North Spit of Coos Bay.

An offshore trip out of Depoe Bay July 18 found 4 SABINE'S GULLS and 51
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES aong with the more expected species.

Among the shorebirds at the South Jetty of the Columbia River July 19 was
a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and a SANDERLING. On July 22 a TATTLER and a juvenile
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER were there with a male OLDSQUAW and an ELEGANT
TERN just off the jetty.

The hybrid GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS successfully nested at Willamette Falls
at Oregon City again this year. A lone chick was seen there July 16.

Two TRUMPETER SWANS were at Baskett Slough NWR during the week. An
immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was there July 22, along with a
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, AND 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

Birders checking Mt. Pisgah, near Eugene July 19 did not see the unusual
birds reported earlier but did see a LARK SPARROW.

A flower-filled meadow on Pinto Mountain south of Highway 58 and west of
the Cascade summit July 22 attracted many RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and a
female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD.

A male BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD was reported July 22 at a feeder near
Jacksonville.
