Birders, On July 22 we braved 102 degree F heat to check out a pond on
Umatilla NWR in southern Benton County. (Patterson unit) There seemed to
be a good turnover of birds since we were there 5 days ago. New arrivals
were 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS.
Most of the LEAST SANDPIPERS AND DOWITCHERS (sp) were gone. There were
still about 200 WESTERN SP, (new birds?). The local nesters are still there
with over 20 each of WILSON'S PHALAROPE, AM AVOCET, & BLACK-NECKED STILTS.
Still no Baird's SP. It was still 93 degrees at 9 pm. Its been this way
for 2 weeks. Sure appreciate air conditioning.
Good Birding,
Craig
