An outstandingly beautiful evening for birding resulted in the following
sightings on the Port Townsend Marine Science Center's cruise to Protection
Island on Sat. (7/25) evening:

Double Crested Cormorants : Protection Island (still om their nests) & Rat
Island

Pelagic Cormorants: P I
Heerman's Gull: everywhere
Bonaparte gull: our first of this summer season
Glaucus Winged Gull
Pigeon Guillemont: everywhere
Rhinocerous Auklet; all locations
Tufted Pufin: in the P I waters
Bald Eagle: 7 on P I
Rock Dove: Point hudson
Belted Kingfisher: Point Hudson
Barn Swallow: Point Hudson
Northwestern Crow: P I

Additionally, we sighted many Harbor Seals and two (2)Elephant seals on the
north shore of Violet Spit on P I.

The Clayborne family , on a birding tour from Texas, was a great addition &
were extremely pleased with the sighting of auklets & puffins.

Future Protection Island Cruises are scheduled for Saturdays: August 1st,
15th, 22nd, 29th and Sept. 5th
