Feature Bird
------------
COMMON TERN

Sunday, July 26
---------------
No reports.

Saturday, July 25
-----------------
14 COMMON TERNS, the first reported for the south-bound migration, were
near the top end of Saanich Inlet off Cobble Hill. These birds could very
well appear near the Bamberton area or along the Saanich Peninsula
shoreline or anywhere along the shoreline of Juan de Fuca Strait as they
begin their movement south.

The only other report was a sad one of the death of a Trumpeter Swan that
has remained through the past 2 or 3 summers on Courtland-Hastings Flat
area of Saanich. This bird was apparently flightless, presumably because
of an earlier injury. The cause of its death is not known.

A Peregrine Falcon has been seen recently in the Sherwood Road Ten Mile
Point area of Saanich. This could be a migrant or one from a pair which
nested successfully in the Duncan area this year.

Friday, July 24
---------------
A brood of BLUE GROUSE was seen near the northwest peak of Mt. Prevost
north of Duncan.

4 Ring-billed Gulls were at Island View Beach.

Thursday, July 23
-----------------
A bird identified by sound as a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was over Island View Beach.

There has been no second report of a BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER reported July
22 on the Sidney Island Loop Trail. Confirmation of this bird is requested,
as this will be just the second of BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER for the Victoria
Checklist area.
