I was riding my bike along the sea-path along Jericho Beach just after
sunset last night trying to cool off when a WANDERING TATTLER Heteroscelus
incanus flew in over the water of Burrard Inlet and landed--very briefly--on
the rocks of a little decorative breakwater at the E side of the concrete
wharf at Jericho. It realised it had landed amidst a crowd of people and
dogs, called once (thereby eliminating the other candidate species fo this
incoming silhouette), and was off back out over the water, flying to the
west. The date of observation, July 27, is very close to its average arrival
date for the adult birds of July 29 (juv avg arrival, Aug 25).
Interestingly, the dates for the north- and southbound windows--both adult
and juvs--are almost two weeks later than the same windows' openings and
closings on the Outer Coast.
