the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
22 July 1998 0930hr to 1030hr

Weather: mostly cloudy, visibility to 3km
Wind SW 5-10; Temp 60F


Method: 60 minute station count at 100m west of "3 rocks" on
SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: A POMARINE JAEGER was seen early in the hour. Two WESTERN
GREBES are first arrivals for the fall migration. A very dark PEREGRINE
was seen flying low and fast along the ocean side of the jetty
