The changing of the avian (as opposed to human) annual seasons continues.
Both WESTERN GREBES and CALIFORNIA GULLS are hanging out at the top of the
lake; perhaps, looking forward to the late August Kokanee migration. The
insectivore decline continues: YELLOW WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, WILLOW
FLYCATCHER, RED-EYED VIREO numbers down from a couple of weeks ago. Most of
the swallows are gone except for BARN SWALLOW. The RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS are
also gone, a few juvenile YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS still making quite a
racket.
Lots of juvenile waterfowl: AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, RING-NECKED DUCK,
AMERICAN COOTS and PIED-BILLED GREBE.
