The ELWAS Olympics wildflower weekend (25, July) netted 60 bird species, along
with most of the targeted posies. Led by flower/bird lady, Irene von Tobel,
eight of us sweltered through it all with copious amounts of ice, and shade,
when it was available.

Most notable bird species: SPRUCE GROUSE, at Hurricane Ridge, (2); CASSIN'S
AUKLET (1), and six HEERMAN'S GULLS at Ediz Hook; BLUE GROUSE, (1), AMERICAN
PIPITS, (3), a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER and GRAY JAYS at Deer Park; PIGEON
GUILLEMOTS (5), and (1) BLACK TERN at John Wayne Marina; and BALD EAGLES,
MIGRATING SHOREBIRDS, and CLAM CHOWDER at Three Crabs.

Great weekend, but good to be back in my woods.
