Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday July 30. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On July 26 a LEAST TERN was observed on the flats near the nature trail
behind the Hatfield Marine Science Center on Yaquina Bay. It has been
seen each afternoon since, so it is apparently remaining in the area.

A probable TROPICAL KINGBIRD was seen July 26 near Cape Blanco in Curry
County. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was in the same area the day before, and a
MERLIN was there July 25.

A juvenile SNOWY EGRET, 2 GREAT EGRETS, and 3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS
were at New River, south of Bandon July 28. Large numbers of shorebirds
are now in the New River, Bandon, and Coos Bay area. The high tide
numbers at the effluent ponds on the North Spit of Coos Bay have been
outstanding. Two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were there July 29. Two families
of RING-NECKED DUCKS and a family of SHOVELERS were there July 26.

Twenty RUDDY TURNSTONES were at Sandpiper Village, north of Alsea Bay
July 19. Another was at Yaquina Bay, along with a WILLET, SURFBIRD, BLACK
TURNSTONES, and a MARBLED GODWIT.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was over Tillamook July 27. A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER,
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and a RUDDY TURNSTONE were among the shorebirds at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River July 28. A POMARINE JAEGER was off the
jetty July 29.

Two TRUMPETER SWANS and 5 GREAT EGRETS are still being seen at Baskett
Slough NWR. A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were
there July 26.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Ankeny NWR July 26. Recently family groups of
PIED-BILLED GREBES, SHOVELERS, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and WILSON'S PHALAROPES
have been seen there. Many migrant shorebirds are also on the refuge,
including 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.

A hiking trip into the Eagle Cap Wilderness last week found displaying
PIPITS and two PINE GROSBEAKS at the south end of Aneroid Lake.
