Hello Tweeters:

In the short period of time since I have been on the lookout for birds, at
noon today I saw my first Green Herons. The Green River is the lowest that I
have seen it and the bank below the blackberries and the other bushes is
exposed, while there are shallows and exposed snags everywhere. I saw 2 green
herons on the bank at water level, they were about 20 feet from each other.
One walked out onto a log/snag, the other waded from the bank into the
shallows and appeared to "fish" something out of the water. The chestnut
throat of one was quite noticable, while the other bird was slightly smaller
and not as noticably marked. The spot I saw them was on the bank directly
opposite the "Old Fishing Hole" in Kent. These birds were small and hard to
see at the rivers edge in the shade, and without my binoculars I would never
have been able to identify them as anything other than "small birds".

Also saw a Belted Kingfisher on the Green River at So. 240th and Russell Road
in Kent. It was flying below me and went into the brush, so I couldn't tell
if it was male or female.
