Sunday, May 31

A GRAY JAY was seen on the trail that leads from Spectacle Lake to Oliphant
Lake on the Malahat Highway.

Also seen and heard there was a bird initially thought possibly to be a
LEAST FLYCATCHER, but which was more likely a HUTTON'S VIREO.

Another bird seen and heard in the coniferous forest at Viaduct Flats in
Saanich, specifically on the trail that leads from Interurban Road through
the Fir Forest to the edge of the Viaduct Flats Pond. Birders thought it
possibly to be a LEAST FLYCATCHER. Confirmation of that bird would be
appreciated by local birders.

Also at Viaduct Flats was a male WILSON'S PHALAROPE, an Osprey, a Cinnamon
Teal and a few Blue-winged Teal.

Two adults and two downy young Virginia Rails were at Quick's Bottom in
Saanich.

A Green Heron was on Blenkinsop Lake in Saanich.

Saturday, May 30

A HUTTON'S VIREO was on Observatory Hill in Saanich.

A NORTHERN ORIOLE was on Mt. Tolmie in Saanich.

Also, a Red-eyed Vireo was on the Cowichan Bay Indian Reserve along the
west extension of the Cowichan Bay Dock Road, west of Tzouhalem Rd.

A first year HEERMANN'S GULL, the first reported for the spring, was at
Clover Point in Victoria.

An EASTERN KINGBIRD was on the Galloping Goose Trail at Lindholm Road in
Metchosin.

Friday, May 29

A Common Nighthawk was over Playfair park in Victoria.

A Spotted Sandpiper was at King's Pond on the Cedar Hill Golf Course in
Saanich.
