I thought I had read that too...
Last month I discovered a common merganser nest in the broken top of one of
the older fir trees in Seward Park. The park is on a peninsula in Lake
Washington (for non-locals) in Seattle. Don't know if they were successful
or not, but if anyone sees merganser chicks in that part of Lake
Washington....
