This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for May 21,

On May 16, Craig Corder and Judy Stevens observed a COMMON TERN,
BONAPARTE'S GULL, BARN OWL, 4 LONG-EARED OWL(ETS), and a YELLOW WARBLER at
Crow Butte State Park, while at the Paterson Slough Unit of the Umatilla
NWR, they found an EARED GREBE, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 4 REDHEADS, and 8
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

On the same day, 5/16, Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise found a pair of
BLUE-WINGED TEAL at the marsh along Snively Road and another teal and a
winnowing COMMON SNIPE along Grosscup Road, both in West Richland.

Also on May 16, Dennis Rockwell reported the following birds on the LCBAS
Juniper Dunes field trip: a pair of nesting FERRUGINOUS HAWKS, 2 GREAT
HORNED OWLS, 6 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, and 3 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES.

The following day, May 17, Dennis observed a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and a
male WESTERN TANAGER in Two Rivers Park in Finley.

On May 18, Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fischer reported many GRASSHOPPER
SPARROWS along McBee Grade Road, south of Kiona and Nancy and Bill
LaFramboise had a WARBLING VIREO in their Richland yard.

Also on the 18th, I (Bob Woodley) had a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at my feeder
while on the 19th my yard yielded a male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD, whereas
Groves Park provided a VAUX'S SWIFT.

Craig Corder and Judy Stevens reported 6 CHIPPING SPARROWS and a BARN OWL
in Plymouth and a BURROWING OWL nest just west of the Plymouth weigh
station on May 20.

On the 21st, they found 2 female RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, a LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER, VAUX'S SWIFTS, and a WILSON'S WARBLER at Crow Butte State Park,
while at the Paterson Unit of Umatilla NWR they saw 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a
COMMON NIGHTHAWK, and an EASTERN KINGBIRD.

In Richland on May 20, Groves Park yielded 2 PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS and
ORANGE-CROWNED and YELLOW WARBLERS (BW).

Today, Ruth Fischer reported a male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD at her feeder
and Nancy LaFramboise and I, birding WE Johnson Park found a late
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, 4 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, and a LAZULI BUNTING.
