I've noticed no population difference at my location. I think I might
actually have a few more RUFOUS hummers than last year. Now that garden
flowers have really taken off the feeder activity has slowed down, but
for several weeks I had up to 10 rufous visiting my 3 feeders.

During mid-May I also had several other hummingbird visitors. A male
ANNA'S was a regular for about two weeks; a male CALLIOPE was around for
a week and a BLACK-CHINNED male made a single visit on May 18. All of
these were firsts for my location, and to my understanding the CALLIOPE
and BLACK-CHINNED are true rarities in King County.

The earlier suggestion that perhaps there is simply an unusual
distribution of the usual number of birds seems like the case to me.

On another subject many thanks the the BRISTLE THIGHED CURLEW reporters.
I was able to make my way to Ocean Shores just after the birds were
reported, search for and finally find the birds, and make the first
addition to my life list in 2 years...now if I could just get to Attu.
