"APO" is more than a coating. It is a special kind of glass (much more
expensive to produce) which allows the primary colors to all be focused on
the same point. This makes for a clearer image--especially for telescope/
telephoto work. "Normal" glass doesn't focus all colors on the same spot,
so there's a slight fringing which makes the image appear less sharp.
