Went up by McGinnis Lake (7 miles NE of Grand Coulee) this afternoon. As
I was driving I saw a bird fly away from the edge of the road and land
in a snag scope distance away. By the time I got the scope out it flew
off down a valley. It was larger then a Brewer's Blackbird and smaller
then a Crow. As it was flying away I saw the Bronze flash on its back. I
am 90% sure it was a Common Grackle. We are going back tomorrow to see
if we can find it.

I also found a pair of LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS. The snag they are nesting in
is near the road. I tried for 1 1/2 hours to get a good picture, but
they were just too quick going in and out of the hole and the light was
failing.

Oh ya I also saw a male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD and a GREAT HORNED
OWL. I sure would like to get a picture of those two sitting side by
side. :-)
