Tweeters,
My wife and I drove out to Cold Creek on the Yakima Training Center early
this afternoon in search of the Clay-colored Sparrow that Andy Stepniewski
had found last Sunday. Well, at least I was searching for it; my wife
went along for the ride and a short walk.
I played a tape and searched for the sparrow for about an hour with no
success. Brewer's Sparrows were plentiful. They were also singing
regularily in spite a a light wind. Vesper Sparrows were singing, also.
I had about given up when on our way back to the car my wife thought she
heard a song just like the tape I had been playing. After another search
and wait of about ten minutes, the Clay-colored Sparrow landed in a small
tree about twenty feet in front of me and sang three or four times. I got
great looks for about fifteen seconds and hearing the live renditions of the
song was a bonus.
