I believe there was a single Brown Pelican at McNary last Fall. My
memory is not trustworthy but the Tweeters archives would have the
accurate information. Off the coast of Washington, Brown Pelicans
are usually a late summer phenomenon with few of them remaining through
the winter and even fewer staying around through spring. I read the
news about what may be the first commercial fisheries for sardines
and mackerel this year off the Washington coast. I guess there is a
full complement of southern fauna out there in the ocean.
('Course we got some southern fauna inland too. They decorate the
pavement).

Well, it's so uncommon that it must rate right up there with flying
saucer sightings. Did the Pelicans abduct any members of your family?

Actually, I believe that you saw Brown Pelicans but they were
well out of normal range. Brown Pelicans are just showing up in
places and in numbers where it's impossible to predict where they
will be next.
