Brown Pelicans are strictly coastal birds at this latituude. Any report of
their occurrence inland would need photo documentation. The same appears to
be the case for Oregon and most of California. In California, they are
regular inland only at the Salton Sea, in the south-eastern part of the
state They have greatly increased there since my teenage birding-days
(early 1970's); at that time they were post-breeding wanderers from the
Gulf of California. Now, they are resident. One wonders if increasing
salinity of the Salton Sea has anything to do with this. They are even
nesting (or attempting at least).
