Subject: Downy feeding nuthatch?

A co-worker of mine observed a nuthatch at her suet feeder that was
having difficulty figuring out how to perch on it to eat. A Downy
Woodpecker arrived at the feeder and began to eat. The nuthatch (which
my colleague presumed was young and inexperienced) settled on top of the
feeder, and pretty soon the woodpecker was feeding it with suet!

Is this unusual?
