OK, so I just can't help talking about glass!!

To add two more cents worth to the discussion about telescopes, I recall
looking at two Kowa and two Swarovski scopes, each brand having an APO scope
side-by-side with a non-APO. It was broad daylight, so I can't tell how much
better at dusk or dawn the APO glass would be, but I recall two general
observations.

First, the APO appeared to be grayer and more true to color than the non-APO.
Secondly, the APO had a significantly greater depth of field than the non-APO.
For both the Kowa and Swarovski I focused on a bird feeder with a chain-link
fence behind it. The APO scopes allowed the fence to be in focus, but the
fence in the non-APO scopes was so out of focus it was close to invisible.

Since focus is so important, to me the biggest advantage of the Leica is their
dual focus knob, one for general focusing and a second for fine-focus, with
both linked so focusing is extremely easy.

I must admit I am just a teensy, weensy, little bit jealous of Richard's new
scope.
