the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
11 Jun 1998 0830 to 0930hr

Wind SW 1-5; Temp 55F


Method: 60 minute station count at 100m west of "3 rocks" on
SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: COMMON MURRES were flying north at a rate of 72/min this
translates to a continuous count of 4320/hr if I had counted only murres.
Large numbers of PACIFIC LOONS are still moving north, as well. A single
alternate plumage RED-NECKED GREBE was unexpected for this time of year.
Three adult BALD EAGLES were sitting together on the beach.
