If anyone is interested in attending any of this years series of
workshops on the ecology of the boreal area involved in the Thunder
Mountain Fire, please contact me by July 1.By participating in these
events, you will not only learn about unique aspects of Washington natural
heritage but will also support the use of our public lands for a
sustainable resource :education. Dates and topics are as follows:

July 17-19. Boreal Ecology Location-Thirtymile Meadows.
This workshop integrates forest, wetland and stream ecology specific to
the boreal ecosystem. Participants will be introduced to concepts of plant
geography and geomorphology, and the adaptations of plants and animals to
this unique ecosystem.

July 19-21. Fire in the Boreal Ecosystem. Location-Thirtymile Meaodws.

This workshop focuses on the effect of fire in the boreal ecosystem.
Paricipants will explore areas with varying intensities of fire from the
1994 Thunder Mountain fire, and examine successional changes in plant and
animal communities following the fire.

September 25-17 Third annual Thunder Trundle. Location-Thirtymile Meaodws.

This is a hiking event held each year to introduce interested parties to
the Thunder Fire and boreal ecosystem. It is a chance to experience the
exceptional ecological changes that followed the 1994 fire, and to share
knowledge.

We also are holding workshops on wetlands education for K-12 teachers. If
anyone is interested in information on these, contact me.

Hope to see some of you there this summer. Thanks
Mary
