While dining on the waterfront in La Conner on the return leg of a
week's vacation on the Western shore of Vancouver Island my wife, daughter,
and I casually looked up to see what seemed to be a Red-billed Tropicbird
flying directly overhead. I was totally unprepared for this and thought
that it was a Long-tailed Jaeger. After consulting many sources and
quizzing and requizzing my two co-observers, we agreed (even though it seems
unlikely) that we saw a Red-billed Tropicbird. Someone please help me with
this. None of us believe in UFO's (although this would qualify); but after
looking over many photos and drawings this is our conclusion.
