Hi All
We have a young family of Hairy Woodpeckers around our place. This morning
we noticed the adult male with the two juveniles at the platform feeder
which holds unshelled peanuts. The adult grabbed a peanut and flew to the
Black Walnut tree about 10 feet away. He wedged the peanut into a crevice in
the tree bark and then opened it and ate the peanuts. Further checking
revealed that this has probably been going on for some time now as there are
several peanut shells on the ground directly below the recently wedged one.
