The Washington BirdBox ia a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a report about a notable sighting or to
listen to the most recent reports from other birders, call (425) 454-2662 and
follow the prompts.

To place a message on the Birdbox via email: send the message as
you want it read to Hal Opperman, halop at accessone.com with a cc to the person
who is transcribing at the time. This is a service to those living in the long
distance calling area. It may involve a delay in getting the message on the
phone as most of us do not monitor our email constantly.

Saturday, June 27, 2:19 pm. Jan Bragg, (206) 524-3460. There were 36 CASPIAN
TERNS on the raft in the swim area at Magneson Park in Seattle, Saturday,
today, at 9:30 am, June 27th. There are also at least one pair of BULLOCK'S
ORIOLES nesting again this year at Magneson.

Saturday, June 27, 6:48 pm. Hi, this is Neil Hess (?), (206) 723-4742. At
midday today at Upper Weir Prarie, there was a singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW,.
Follow the directions to Upper Weir Prarie in Whal and Paulson's Guide to
Bird Finding in Washington, Page 90. Once on Upper Weir Prairie, head for the
middle of the prairie where there are 2 road that form a criss-cross across
the very center of the prairie. On one limb of the 4 directions, someone has
splattered some red and yellow paint. Follow that fork of the crossroads about
75 to 100 yards and the sparrow will be singing on your left. Good luck and
good birding.

Saturday, June 27, 10:41 pm. Gary Blanchard, (360) 853-7203. A FRANKLIN'S
GULL turned up today east of Hamilton on highway 20 in Skagit County. This
bird was following a farm tractor near Copen Notch (?), a company that makes
log homes, near the intersection of highway 20 and Limen-Hamilton Road, and
just east of the O'Hara Road. After following the tractor, the bird flew south
and west to a dairy farm located at the north, rather, south corner of the
Limen-Hamilton Road.

Sunday, June 28, 8:05 am. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. Yesterday, Jim Flynn
(?) and I started out birding north of Winthrop, at Freeze Out Ridge which is
near Rodgers Lake on Forrest Road 39. At Freeze Out Ridge, we had 7 BOREAL
CHICKADEES, a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL. Heading north from there for the Tiffany
Springs campground on the side of the road we had a male SPRUCE GROUSE
displaying to a female. And farther north, where Dog Creek crosses the forrest
road which is at the north end of a rather large burn, along the creek edge,
we had a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER. Later in the day at Crockett Lake, we had
returning shorebirds, including about 70 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a couple of LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 2 SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. That's it.
Good luck and good birding.
