AMERICAN BITTERN

Monday, June 29
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
An AMERICAN BITTERN was on Beverley Road in Duncan and for a brief period
was entangled in the netting of the golf driving range there. This would
appear to be the first late June record of this species in the checklist
area. Written documentation is requested.

2 singing RED-EYED VIREOS were on Lochside Road just south of Martindale
Road in Central Saanich.

2 SANDHILL CRANES remain on the north side of Martindale Road in that same
general area.

4 singing male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS continue along Blenkinsop Lake Trail
in Saanich.

On the lake itself were 5 adult Wood Ducks in broods of 9 and 6 Wood Duck
chicks.

Sunday, June 28

5 Least Sandpipers were at Cowichan Bay.

At least 3 and probably 4 Ospreys made an unusual visit to the James Bay
area and over Ogden Point in Victoria.

A GREEN HERON made 3 visits to the vicinity of 1327 Chan Place in Langford
and could be nesting somewhere in that vicinity.

Saturday, June 27

A Ruffed Grouse, Blue Grouse and Townsend's Solitaire were seen and heard
along the Chemainus River Road west of Chemainus.

Thursday, June 25

Numbers of Black Swifts were over the Cowichan Bay area and Deep Cove area
of the Saanich Peninsula.
