Bill and Erin - If you didn't make it down to the Laguna Atascosa
Wildlife Refuge off S. Padre Island and Port Isabel, we would
recommend that highly as well.
It sports a flowing mixture of shorebirds, and land based raptors
(even one adult American bald eagle. In winter, the Refuge's fresh
water lakes are home to up to populations of migrating water birds
from northern climes. We understand that a 'World Birding Center' has
been proposed for the area (lower Rio Grande Valley), and may be built
near Laguna Atascosa.
